Rigidity Falls Away (Ep. 45)

cw: eating disorders and domestic violence

Gloria Hu grew up a Taiwanese-Canadian in a majority-minority suburb of Toronto, with a Mormon father and Presbyterian mother, eventually migrating into the United Church of Canada. In this episode, Gloria gets personal about how recovering from her eating disorder coincided with letting go of the rigidity of evangelicalism, why therapy based around Intensive Outpatient Treatment was for her a game changer, and discusses her doctoral research on religion and religiosity as a predictor of health as well as potential intimate partner violence among Asian Americans.

Gloria also shares her painful but necessary experience of creating distance and setting boundaries with family members and the moment she realized something needed to change.

Thank you Gloria for your willingness to share your riveting story as well as for everything you do for PAAC. And thank you everyone for listening!
