Joy Anyway (Ep. 41)

Happy New Year! We’re starting the new season of the podcast with a bang with the esteemed Reverend Winnie Varghese. If ever there were a handbook on how to be a Christian activist, this episode would be the one. Rev. Winnie Varghese holds a unique position as priest on the Strategic Clergy team at Trinity Church Wall Street. This role affords her and her team an opportunity to advocate for meaningful change in her community, such as closing Riker’s Island. In this episode, Reverend Winnie discusses the importance of jail reform and why incarceration is “tool against the poor," how the church has a unique role to play in activism, and why even social media has a role to play (gasp!) as an effective tool for social justice. As always, thank you for listening!
